Pharencia – Online Collaborative Learning Platform

Pharmacy Hub is a collaborative platform designed to engage the current HKU pharmacy students with alumni and other members of the pharmacy community. Our primary objective is to enrich students’ journey to becoming more successful healthcare professionals by providing the access and exposure to various resources, cases and connections. Pharmacy Hub is developed on Microsoft Teams due to it’s versatility as a workplace communication software that facilitates the organization of information and cloud-based team collaboration. This initiative continuously enrolls students on a yearly basis for freshman of the Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) and Master of Advanced Pharmacy (MAP).

Our platform mainly features three functionalities:

1. Networking and Connecting:

To engage students to experiential learning opportunities which may include internships, initiatives and other collaborative chances, the platform provides the means for connecting our students to other members of the pharmacy community. Our platform offers exclusive networking to various healthcare sectors, professionals and associations. Through networking and connecting, we hope to establish an active community that students are able to deepen their relations and interests within pharmacy.

2. Cases and Resources Sharing:

The development team are engaging teachers and alumni to contribute on the platform to supplement and enrich students’ learning and personal growth as a future pharmacist. Their contributions include but not limited to the sharing of realistic patient cases, practice tips and advices, and other useful resources.

3. Knowledge Discussion:

The HKU pharmacy curriculum is known for its unique style of teaching, particularly the Problem-Based Learning activities that engages learners to confront contextualized and ill-structured problems similar to real world situations and scenarios. PBL and other similar activities and assessments helps to guide learners to discover knowledge themselves and also encourages deeper learning that helps to develop collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving skills. However, the platform aims to reach a professional and high level of knowledge discussion without any stressor induced by academic assessments. In fact, we are encouraging students to sustain a more relaxed tone while being more proactive with the community. We hope to nurture a culture where students are able to learn through mistakes and failures, but most importantly upon each other for a greater aim to improve as a community.
